Famous Fashion Brands. Part 1

Sometimes a label makes more than one thousand words. Discover the story of classic names in fashion and about their signature that represents them.

Marc Jacobs - Artistic Director
Louis Vuitton

Tradition: In adolescence, Louis has been preparing travel bags for Napoleon III's trips. He opened his first store in 1854. But, in 1987, when 95 year from his death have passed, the company merges with the largest luxury conglomerate worldwide, Moet Hennessy. From 1997, Louis Vuitton is on the top, thanks to the avant-garde vision of American designer MarcJacobs.
Style:  The monogram of LV in
shades of ocher represents a legacy, a distinctive sign, and a company’s “toy” which won the status of a symbol.

Frida Giannini - Creative director

Gucci

Tradition: Guccio Gucci started his career as a master saddler, he was being in charge of processing leather items for horse riding and then he evolved to bags and shoes. After his death the company entered the regress. From 1994 till 2003 Gucci became again a fashion company with a big name, thanks to its creative director Tom Ford.
Style:  Logo GG is a symbol which is denoting
brightness and elegance, also the Italian family origins.

Karl Lagerfeld - Chief Designer
Chanel

Tradition: 1911 is the year when 28 aged Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel opens her first salon on Rue Cambon Street, Paris, it exists
until today. She buried the corset, made skirts shorter and creates the “little black dress”. The Chanel suit became a legend, which is always reinvented. Today, Chanel is the most famous brand worldwide, thanks to Karl Lagerfeld’s vision. Chanel No.5 is the best selling perfume in the world.
Style:Fashion fades, only style remains the same.” said Coco. Typical elements of Chanel are practice, elegant dresses, Tweed suits, golden button, pearls, chain quilted shoulder bag and white, black and beige colour.

Stefano Pilati - Head designer
Yves Saint Laurent

Tradition : As successor of his teacher, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent created his famous trapeze dress when he was only 21 years old. Following another stroke of genius, Yves invents smoking for women and “nude” looks. Also, he launches Haute Couture creations and a Prêt-à-Porter line renamed Rive Gauche. In 1999, depressed, he sold his company and paused creation till 2002. From 2004, Stefano Pilati becomes artistic director and switch at the helm o YSL.
Style: Sometimes art, sometimes controversy! YSL created suit with trousers for women and black safari looks, always surprising.
